Psalm 8 is a hymn of praise composed by David, as he celebrated the majesty of God and the glory and responsibility of man given to him by his Creator. Following the psalmist’s train of thought, we returned to the book of Genesis and remembered how God made everything and saw that it was good. We went beyond the psalmist’s intention this past Sunday and considered The Fall and its consequences, humanity’s need for a redeemer, and the role of Christ as our Creator-Redeemer who restores relational harmony to the cosmos through his life, death, resurrection and ascension.
One thing that occurred to me as I have continued to contemplate the main idea of the message – that united to Christ by faith, we are restored to the place of glory and honor intended by our Creator – is that, those who have been united to Christ by faith experience a foretaste of this relational harmony now! We have been reconciled to God, we have peace with God, and are now able and empowered by the Spirit to love God and love our neighbor in the present time as we prepare to reside in our eternal home with Christ for all eternity! Of this we celebrate with David, as we sing Oh LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
